At Coachella last month, the queen of brat herself Charli XCX declared numerous ideas for this summer’s theme. It could be Cronenberg Summer or Lorde Summer or Ethel Cain Summer, she offered. All good options. But of all Charli’s ideas, in my humble opinion, one stuck out as the most promising: Haim Summer.
To be honest, I’ve already started subscribing to Haim Summer. I’ve long been a fan of the Jewish sister trio, but “Relationships” is my song of the season. I’ve been listening to it on repeat, softly singing the lyrics “Baby, how can I explain / when an innocent mistake / turns into 17 days / fucking relationships” to myself whether I’m in the shower or walking through the park. My obsessiveness is extending elsewhere in the Haim-iverse, too. After Drew Starkey and Logan Lerman‘s appearances in Haim’s last two music videos, I’m left theorizing who will be the next Haim boys (the sisters’ answer to the Bond girl). I’m bargaining with myself over splurging on concert tickets or pre-ordering “i quit” on vinyl. I’m debating whether I should let my bob grow out into Danielle, Alana and Este’s effortlessly ’70s waves. And based on how many results pop up on X, Instagram and TikTok when I search “Haim Summer,” I’m sure I can’t be alone.
A key part of Brat Summer was the style: Brat (read: lime) green, mini skirts and hot pants, big black sunglasses, baby tees and strappy tank tops with no bra and thick eyeliner — basically anything that makes you feel a little messy and really hot.
So, what’s the Haim Summer uniform?

In essence, I think, Haim Summer is about breaking up with your boyfriend. Haim’s new singles — “Relationships,” “Down to be wrong” and “Everybody’s trying to figure me out” — all evoke a feeling of independence, of questioning and shaking off the oppressive forces in one’s life, which happen to be centered around relationships. So I think the vibe of the summer is figuring out what you want and being free in your own body. To translate this into a visual aesthetic language, take a cue from Haim’s own style: Don’t be afraid to show skin. Make big choices with color, pattern and texture. Try varying your looks from a flowing skirt to well-tailored trousers. Lean into anything with a Los Angeles or vintage vibe. Wear not one Star of David, but layer two.
And, of course, Haim Summer uniforms are most effective when they’re coordinated and in multiples of threes. “In order to maintain cohesion, the Haim sisters tend to center their looks around one unifying texture, color palette, or silhouette,” Hannah Jackson writes for Vogue. “Like with their music, they share the spotlight with ease, blending into the collective. But that doesn’t mean their individuality disappears: that each outfit succeeds alone and in the group is the true marker of success.”
You can and should take this definition of Haim Summer and run with it. But to ground you in a starting place, I’ve compiled clothing items and products that emulate some of my personal favorite Haim looks. Whether it’s the black bikini and leather pants of the One More Haim Tour, the bikini top and jean shorts looks from the “Summer Girl” music video, a retro number Alana wore in “Licorice Pizza,” the styles the sisters wear on the covers of “i quit” and “Women in Music Part III” or, yes, even outfits from the “Relationships” video, these pieces will help you dress like Haim.

The leather pants Haim wears are from Louis Vuttion's Fall 2022 Ready-to-Wear collection. But these are a more than suitable dupe.
Black ankle boots are an essential item if you want to dress like Haim. Plus, they're just a good basic to have.
Haim loves a playful tights-as-pants moment. These blue tights, like the ones Alana's wears in the "Relationships" video, add a nice pop of color. Paired best with the bodysuit, Maryjanes, button-up and tie below.
Maryjanes and ballet flats are in! Be trendy and give your feet a break.
The bodysuit Alana is wearing is probably designer. But for your purposes, stick with tried-and-true Old Navy. It's inexpensive and will last awhile.
Even if you weren't trying to dress like Haim, having a white button down in your closet is just a good idea.
OK, look. I don't know a ton about ties. So my suggestion is getting a very simple, adjustable option from Amazon. It'll get the job done!
Danielle wears a lot of outfits in the "Relationships" video, but my personal favorite is the green jersey tank top and red underwear she wears in bed. To recreate the top, buy this custom jersey in a size up and with the number 31. Paired best with the red bikini below.
Cheeky bottoms plus fun color combos and texture? This is very Haim.
Danielle, Alana and Este are wearing thrifted dresses on the cover of "i quit." But this piece, with its puffy sleeves and sequins, is a pretty close dupe to the teal piece Danielle is wearing.
If you're more of an Alana, go with this dupe to the dress she wore for the "i quit" photoshoot.
Or, if you're an Este, go with this ruched purple dress.
Haim began their press tour for "i quit" with coordinated Instagram posts and t-shirts reading "i'm taken," "i'm single" and "i'm ???" You'll have to make your own to get the look. I recommend customizing this baby tee with font like Punto Bold from Adobe.
When Alana starred in "Licorice Pizza," her costumes were not a stretch to her real-life style. The purple brushed denim bell bottoms she wore in the movie were vintage, but this pair will get the job done. Paired best with the t-shirt and belt below.
If a custom t-shirt with the phrase "You've come a long way, baby" is good enough for Paul Thomas Anderson — his costume department made the t-shirt Alana wears in the movie — it's good enough for you.

The cover of "Women in Music Pt. III" is a moment. As far as I'm concerned, Haim has made aprons an accessory. Paired best with the white tank top and wide leg jeans below.

Trade the low-rise skinny jeans for high-rise and wide-leg.
Leather jackets are an important accessory to any Haim outfit. It'll make you look and feel independent, tough as nails and "Down to be wrong."
Trade the giant Brat sunglasses for something smaller, sleeker and maybe with a touch of tortoise.
Haim has been known to wear a bold red lip. But for the most part, their make-up looks are more natural. Glossier is the best in the biz for minimalist cosmetics and Leo is a fun neutral shade.
The Haim sisters often wear simple yet elegant Star of David necklaces out and about. But at the "Hacks" season three premiere a few years ago, Alana wore two. Stacking is very in, so I would follow her lead.
