It was really a pleasure diving into the details of Artemis Interreg Euro-MED, one of the thematic projects of the Interreg Euro-MED Natural Heritage, dealing with Posidonia meadows restoration. 🐟 The project plans to protect Posidonia seagrass meadows at 4 pilot sites across the MED and restore their vital ecosystems, combining technical innovations, such as transplantation, with financial schemes in the form of Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES). 🙏 A big "thank you" to all project partners that involved us in a two-day inspiring meeting, where I had the chance to learn more on the pilot cases, the ecosystem services to be studied (e.g., blue carbon and biodiversity) and the policy dimension of these activities. As projects' innovative results need to be sustained and properly capitalized in order to achieve real change, the results amplification strategy of the project was discussed and the potential synergies with the Interreg Euro-MED Natural Heritage were explored. The Natural Heritage Community supports the efforts of all thematic projects through a variety of activities and services, including community building, working groups, mentoring sessions, capacity building and policy advocacy. 🌊✨ Reconnection at Kerkennah Island, Tunisia! ✨🌍I want to share the incredible experience my colleagues and I had during our trip to Kerkennah Island, Tunisia, from 11-15 November. We were there to host an event called "For a Resilient Future: mainstreaming NbS for Blue Carbon ecosystems in the Mediterranean". Here are some highlights:1️⃣ We presented the ongoing efforts of IUCN at both regional and international levels, emphasizing the crucial role of #naturebasedsolutions (NbS) in preserving #bluecarbon ecosystems. 2️⃣ A major highlight was the presentation of the outcomes from the evaluation of #Posidonia seagrass and #wetland #carbonsinks in Tunisia conducted by ATUTAX. Understanding and quantifying these carbon sinks are pivotal steps towards effective blue carbon strategies in the Med.3️⃣ We took the opportunity to map out the current status of various projects, initiatives, and assessments in the Mediterranean. This overview allows us to align our efforts for a more impactful collective approach in the Med.Our trip wouldn't have been as memorable without the warm hospitality of our Tunisian colleagues. Their generosity and welcoming spirit added an extra layer of positivity to our mission. One of the most inspiring moments for me was witnessing the Kerkennian method of traditional fishing, called Charfis. Using palm leaves to sustainably and naturally capture fish, this slow and conscious approach reminded me of the importance of being mindful of our food sources. It's a stark contrast to the fast and often mindless and greedy methods we commonly employ. The #traditionalecologicalknowledge of the Kerkennian community ensures a year-long abundance without harming their sea, their protected species, or their people. It's a powerful reminder of the need to slow down and reconnect to nature for a more sustainable and harmonious future.Grateful for the enriching experiences and the opportunity to contribute to the preservation of our precious marine ecosystems.🌏💙 #BlueCarbon #NatureBasedSolutions #MediterraneanConservation #SustainabilityJourney

The Torne River International Watershed LIFE (TRIWA LIFE) aim is to improve the state of the aquatic environment within the whole watershed of the River Torne, returning it to its natural state. The restoration measures are aimed particularly at improving living conditions for the green club-tailed dragonfly, bullhead, endangered salmon, trout, freshwater pearl mussel and the protected common otter.Bypass channels will be built at power plants on Tengeliönjoki River. The fishways will open up 970 kilometers of migratory routes. All the culverts in the area will be inventoried. The aim is to remove 399 migration barriers and open up 3366 kilometers of migratory routes. 103 hectares of river and stream environments will be restored to a natural-like status. 2521 hectares of drained mires will be restored. The effects of measures on the target species will be monitored.https://lnkd.in/dyvMDUdg
