Betty, retired candy manufacturer and resident of Memphis for 36 years, died at 10:50 o'clock yesterday morning at his home, 224 Hawthorne, following an illness of several years.

Oct. total of $578,500 will be paid in October to the needy aged, the needy blind, and dependent children in Tennessee, according to an estimate made public today by W. N. Pearce, acting regional director of Social Security in Birmingham. Of this amount, which is an estimate the combined total payments from Federal, state and local funds, based on state reports to the Social Security Board for previous months, $380,000 will go for aid to the aged; $18,700 for of the blind; and $179,800 for aid to dependent children.
