This is a unique opportunity to have oversight of the HR function and management of the support to the Volunteer areas of our business. The position will be part of our Senior Leadership team working closely with the CEO and Board members, to support and develop on our People Strategic plan. The role will include:

  • Develop a People Plan covering employed and volunteer staff to meet the organisation and charitable objectives.
  • Advise the CEO and Board members and other relevant staff on strategic matters, Employment Law, policies and planning.
  • Overseeing the engagement of the communication with people in the organisation
  • Equip our people, with the skills and support to meet our charitable objectives.
  • Have a positive effect on our diverse organisation of 150 paid employees and our 800 to 1000 volunteer community across a wide range of departments, many of whom bring specialist skills.
  • Build on our aim to attract new volunteers to a wealth of opportunities while retaining those who have served the Charity for more than 50 years in some instances.
  • Working with managers and people of all levels to maintain a safe environment for all workers and visitors.

Personal Specification

Essential Criteria

  • Has previously occupied a position at a senior HR level.
  • Experience of managing people and engaging with volunteers within a range of organisations and sectors.
  • Right to work in the UK and hold a UK Driving licence with own transport.
  • Can demonstrate managing and developing a team of professional staff.
  • Has the ability to represent our business and communicate with all levels, ranging from employed staff, volunteers, board members and external organisations.

Desirable Criteria

  • Has experience of working with Trade Unions and/or employee representative groups.
  • Membership (by examination to Level 7) of CIPD or equivalent experience.
  • Understanding of working in a commercial environment.

Access Update:Please note that due to a bus that crashed off the bridge into the river on the Grosmont to Egton road, there is currently no road access to Grosmont Station from the Egton direction. The only road access to Grosmont is through the Sleights or Grosmont turn off on the A169, so please plan your journey with this in mind. Grosmont businesses are open as usual. Updated 06/08.
